Course Description & Objectives This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of chaplaincy, highlighting its biblical foundations, historical development, core responsibilities, and practical applications. Students will explore the role of the chaplain in various contexts, examine the importance of spiritual care, and reflect on the ethical responsibilities of this ministry. Objectives: To understand the biblical and historical foundations of chaplaincy. To explore the core roles and responsibilities of chaplains. To examine how chaplains provide care in times of crisis. To discuss ethical guidelines, boundaries, and self-care in chaplaincy. To equip learners with a framework for discerning their own potential call to chaplaincy. Course Goals: Students will be able to articulate the purpose and function of chaplaincy. Students will reflect on the ministry of presence as a central theme in chaplaincy. Students will evaluate the importance of ethics and self-care for sustainable ministry. Students will connect biblical principles to the practice of chaplaincy in diverse contexts. Mini-Lesson: The foundation and purpose for each lesson is to offer a simple, clear, and concise explanation of the content covered, while thoroughly discussing the significant aspects and most pertinent details of each topic.
